Proofreaders' marks- symbols written on a printed document by a copyeditor
Insert mode- opening and inserting new text within a document insert mode id default
Overtype mode- The operation used to erplace exsisting text in a document with new text

Active plains- is the insersion point currently located commands and actions occur
Active document- commands and actions occur in the active document
Tile- Arrange windows so they do not overlap onscrene
Synchronous scrolling- links the scroll bars in two windows so you can scroll in one window while the other stays
Independent scrolling- ability to scroll a window without affecting the display in other open windows
